And They Call The Wind Annoying [Nov. 6th, 2007|09:32 am]

The weather I hate camping in the most is wind. It's not bad for a few hours, but a day or two of it will drive me crazy.

Wind takes over everything. It gets dust in your eyes, in your food, and in your bed. It blows the heat from your camp stove so everything takes longer to cook. It blows your book around making it a chore just to read. It wreaks havoc on the lines holding up the canopies and the tent, so they require constant monitoring. It tumbles things around, causing trash cans and tumbleweeds to come barreling through camp and old tree branches to come crashing down way too close for comfort. It's also a constant source of noise, noise, NOISE! Not a nice, consistent, soothing noise like rain, but an irritating, erratic noise that is impossible to ignore.

Today it's windy here and I'm glad I live inside.

Stakes For Texas

We use washers on giant nails and lag screws to stake tents down when the ground is hard.

Now I have that song stuck ...

...in my head and I'm going a little batty because I keep thinking the words go:

Way up here/ they have a name
for wind and rain and fire
the rain is Shemp/ the fire's Moe
and they call the wind annoyiinggg

That giant nail thing really works. I didn't know they made them that size until cdozo told me. I don't much like wind either. It makes me uneasy. I think it's that metaphorical thing about change etc. and also stuff blowing around and trees falling and all. I appreciate it, but I don't really like it, especially all night moaning and sighing outside and making the branches scratch and clatter and I know the birds are cold and holding tight with their skinny naked feet and getting tossed around an dhoping they can stay alive until the morning. I just don't really like it.
