[The river is |calm pleased]

The Austin Public Library has finally forgiven me and allowed me to get a library card. It took them over ten years!

I'll try to do better this time, I promise.

I'm so happy

I love the Austin library system. All the books, magazines, CDs, DVDs. What did you do to get into library purgatory, lose your checked out copy of Catcher in the Rye to the "Committee of Citizens Who Read Good"?

I'm Happy Too

I kept some books too long. I got them for an (excellent) end-of-the-semester paper. The books were about a month overdue when I returned them. I paid the fines the day I returned the books and I thought all was well. But the next time I went to check out a book they wouldn't let me. They wanted me to pay a fee of over $100 for the effort they were going to put into collecting the money from me. They had not started the process, but since my name had moved into the collection process queue they wanted the extra money.

I refused to pay it, so they took away my library privileges.

But now they gave them back and we are friends again.

Maybe one at a time?

Good luck.

Good to be friends again

I lost a book (it walked away from my office so to speak) from the science library at UT. I felt absolutely horrible, there is something about libraries, it is like offending an innocent, hurting an angel. When they get angry, they get angry. And financially vengeful, Old Testament style. The librarians were kind to me when I told them what happened, they let me sob in the back room, out of sight of the rest of the clientele. I promised never to do it again and I haven't. I paid for the book and the recheck in fee but of course, I had lost the book not merely turned it in late.

Have lots of fun.
