Studs Terkel has died. I first heard of him when I was staying at amysn 's mom Rhoda's house in L.A.. Rhoda had a book he'd written called Division Street: America. The book was a series of interviews with just plain folks. I was in the middle of my traveling days and I really liked how well this book captured the essence of the people I was discovering as I traveled around the country.

Part of the second verse of my song Two Strangers came from that book. He'd written about a woman whose life had been full of trouble, so she had taken to moving from town to town. She kept moving because she believed that if she didn't stay in one place for very long, trouble wouldn't have the time to find her.
