We're going to have a blizzard!

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 PM EST this
afternoon.

Periods of snow will taper off from west to east through this
afternoon. Total snow accumulations will range from less than 1
inch to around 2 inches.

High winds will develop this afternoon as temperatures fall through
the 20s... resulting in some blowing and drifting snow across area
roads. This will make travel hazardous through tonight.

Northwest winds will increase to 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50
mph... which will continue into tonight. High winds will be capable
of knocking down trees... tree limbs and wires... as well as destroying
loose Holiday decorations and other unsecured outdoor items.

Your message appeared on my friends list just above that from a friend in western Australia who was in 39C temps and trying to move furniture and boxes about...I think that's about 104F. So the two next to each other made very strange reading.

We're still dry down here. Dryer and dryer. But it's crisp and cool. I can live without blizzards, esp. when there are horses to care for and I am not even sure where their blankets are.

The snow stopped and it wasn't even an inch. :-(

But a front's moving in and it's going to get windy soon. Hopefully more snow will come, but I don't think so.

In the meantime the National Weather Service keeps sending me Fire Warnings for the Austin area.

I wish it would rain there.

We ALL hope it will rain here. Driving in to Austin last week, I saw a notice that one of the towns--I think Cedar Park but might've been Leander--posted along the road saying there would be zero tolerance of fireworks.

How do they celebrate New Year's up there?

There are a few guests and we're going to eat dinner and watch a video. Near midnight, we'll walk into Prospect Park where they have a big fireworks display at midnight.

I've made black-eyed peas and I bought some delicious broccoli rabe (a tasty kind of greens) at the Italian bodega down the street. After the fireworks, we'll eat them and drink champagne.
