I am not very coherent when I first wake up. Here is an example... I have a wonderful microwave Melita coffee set-up. It consists of a glass pot with a lid and a Melita filter holder designed to fit on the pot. The pot is microwave safe, so I can make a pot of coffee and reheat it easily. Every couple of mornings I boil some water in the microwave and while the water is heating, I rinse out the pot and wash my mug. Then I make the coffee and have a cup. Most mornings, I'm so eager that as soon as there's enough coffee in the pot, I hold the dripping filter above my mug, pour myself a cup of coffee, and then put the filter back on the pot to finish dripping.
So the other day I boiled the water, washed the mug and pot, set up the filter and then I couldn't find my mug. After looking for a bit, I noticed that the coffee pot was still in the dish drainer. If the coffee pot was there, what was the filter dripping into? I looked over and discovered the filter sitting on top of my mug which was overflowing coffee all over the counter.
I can also be pretty clueless at night. Last night G and I watched last Friday's episode of The Doll House which I had taped because G was out. The long-term story line is developing nicely and it was very engrossing. Afterward the news was on. It opened with the weather guy saying that the weather was gong to be stormy again. He said that it had already begun raining in some areas and that the temperature was expected to fall into the upper 30's. I was pleased about the rain, but pissed about the cold. The weather last week damaged some of the veggie plants I have in pots for my Spring garden. I was irritated that I would have to bring them in again and in the rain at that. I was also annoyed because I check the forecast regularly, yet I had missed that this was coming. When, a few stories later, they got to something I knew had happened last week, I realized I was still watching the tape and that was last Friday's weather report.
The best part was that G had watched me get pissed off watching the weather report and he never said a word. He knew I didn't realize it was last week's news, but he just wandered off to get ready for bed. That's my boy!
