Right at the part of the driveway where the dead coral snake was last spring. My yard hippie ran over this one and one of us ran over the coral snake. Maybe I need to put in a "Poisonous Snake Crossing" sign at that part of the driveway.

Yup, a "coontail" (Western Diamondback) rattler all right. Nice clean pattern--recently shed old skin, I'll bet, unless the flash picked it out. I guess you do need a "Snake Crossing" sign...but you're selecting for snakes that don't lie around on your driveway.

Also notice the flowering horseherb in the lower righthand corner and center top (tiny yellow flowers.)

Thanks for the horseherb ID. I remember its name off and on. Usually I just remember the horse part. :-)

i like the snake crossing sign idea

there is a huge black old northern water snake (nasty-aggressive type) that periodically suns itself on the bend in the main road by our place in CT... but somehow miraculously never been run over

You're doing alright. Just keep driving in and out of that driveway and after a while, safe for Nancy! Do please take that snake to Tom for me, won't you?
