Port Aransas may wind up under water. From the Port Aransas Newspaper, the South Jetty:

By Phil Reynolds
South Jetty reporter

"If you have a one-story building, you should be able to see the roof by Saturday.
are saying if Hurricane Rita makes landfall as a Category 3 storm late
Friday, Sept. 23, in the area of Matagorda Bay – which is their best
guess at press time – Port Aransas will probably see a 10-foot storm
surge on top of high tides.
The highest point in the city is 11 feet, engineers say."

I hope that nice place is ok, but I also hope this might put the brakes on some of the more thoughtless developement that seemed to be going on there. Barrier islands just aren't great places for dense development. Still, I hope everyone and everything there comes through fine, expeciallly the boggy board place. And the roseate spoonbills. Good luck Texas.
