Way to go Connecticut!

From today's New York Times:

Connecticut Ruling Overturns Ban on Same-Sex Marriage

By SHARON OTTERMAN The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled on Friday that same-sex couples have the right to marry, reversing a lower court decision that had concluded that the civil unions legalized in the state three years ago had offered the same rights and benefits as marriage.

With the 4-to-3 ruling, Connecticut becomes the third state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage. California legalized gay marriage in May 2008, and Massachusetts in 2004.

Hurray for them.

I'm astonished/amused/bewildered/infuriated by people who say things like the court "forced same-sex marriage" on the state...no, it *allowed* it. Didn't say every gay/lesbian couple had to marry. Didn't say heterosexuals had to marry the same sex instead of the other way. Just said same sex couples *could* marry. What part of "allow" does not equal "forced to" do these people not get?

One person's marriage has nothing to do with the sanctity or whatever of another person's marriage.
