I said OK, and a few hours later she called me back and explained what she'd been doing. Well, what she was doing made it into The Daily News and you can read about it by clicking here. It might not sound so important, but in NYC, the homeowner is responsible for keeping the sidewalk clear and liable for any injuries caused by poor maintenance, and my sister's neighbor is too old and disabled to do the work. My sister was being a hero. I'm proud of her. I'm also glad it ended without anyone having to bail her out of jail.
In her blog post about the article and the fact that it got Farked, my sister says, "The article was written by Michael Daly, who is a friend of mine. He's a wonderful writer and a true prince of a man.
You should read the book he wrote about Father Michael Judge, the chaplain for the NY Fire Department. Michael's book is a sweet, tough bio of a really good, committed, faithful, devout, and incredibly complicated person. He died at the World Trade Center."
