I gave up putting ice cream in my coffee for Lent. No ice cream for 40 days. None.

Well I just discovered that Easter is this Sunday. It's almost over!!!  Yay!

I really missed it.

The one bad headache I had, I took meds and stood in the kitchen thinking about coffee and ice cream. I was hoping the meds would work, but it takes about 20 minutes. So I stood there for a bit. Then I pretended that I was religious and thought, "God is testing me, I can do this."

And my resolve firmed up. I decided to wait a half hour and see if the meds worked. They did. The fact that I didn't quit when I had an excuse made me feel strong and virtuous. I think that may be a part of what religious fasts are all about. When the going gets tough, you dig into yourself to find the strength to continue and if/when you succeed your relationship with [insert mystical being's name(s) here] is strengthened.

But I also kept in mind my Islamic's friend's statement that if she had to break a Ramadan fast for a good reason, Allah would know that it was for a good reason and forgive her. Knowing that I would be forgiven (by a being I don't believe in) if I broke my fast due to a bad migraine allowed me to try in the first place.

On a spiritual-law level, this was a very complex undertaking.
