NASA, Arsenic and DNA [Dec. 2nd, 2010|09:11 am]
Wizard of Changes -- ©cdozo 2004 to 2015

WASHINGTON -- NASA will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. EST on Thursday, Dec. 2, to discuss an astrobiology finding that will impact the search for evidence of extraterrestrial life.

Gizmodo says, "NASA scientist Felisa Wolfe Simon will announce that they have found a bacteria whose DNA is completely alien to what we know today. While she and other scientists theorized that this could be possible, this is the first time that this has been confirmed. Instead of using phosphorus, the bacteria uses arsenic."

This should be fun. Maybe they can use it to both clean up the arsenic contaminated wells and breed new kinds of pets.

Old lace

It is a little known fact that Cary Grant had stomach flora consisting mostly of these bacteria. That is why he was chosen for that role, he was the only one willing to do his own stunts.
