What I Like About Texas [Jun. 15th, 2005|01:47 pm]

I think I saw a Caracara on the way home. I only got one photo, and it's not very good. But seeing the bird was really cool. Here's my picture of it.

We had just driven out of a thunderstorm when I saw the bird. Here's the storm:

Here are some pictures of some of the beautiful plant life on the ranch. The orange ball flower has ants on it.

We saw a cool caterpillar on a bag.

I moved it to a tree. That's Georgie's thumb.

You're Welcome

We saw the new Batman. G loved it, I thought it was OK. He may go see it again this weekend with Aditya and Swati.

Do you have any idea what kind of caterpillar the cool hairy bark patterned one is?

Looks sort of like a limacodid

I can´t really tell what the caterpillar is. From all the little things coming off its back and general shape, tt reminds me of a limacodid. Those little things would be little spikes filled with poison, are they hairs maybe. It could be a lichen feeder too from the fact that it has that type of color, matching typical central Texas tree bark lichen, is rather small. But I can´t tell. Perhaps ask at the lab. John Abbott might be able to find a moth person. Our old guy Gillaspie might know but he is out of commission, I think.
